This article is about Mortal Kombat for the PC. Mortal Kombat was originally released for DOS as a set of floppy disks. It was later re-released on a CD in a package with Mortal Kombat II (PC). It's gameplay is similar to Revision 3 of the arcade with a few changed sound effects.

Sound

Like other versions of Mortal Kombat for DOS, there are different sets of sounds depending on the sound card of the computer playing it. Some sound cards can play the game with a complete, arcade like, set of sounds. Other less capable sound cards may use a small number of sounds for as many characters as possible.

Playing on modern computers

Mortal Kombat is compatible with the open source software DOSBox. DOSBox recreates a DOS environment with support for sound, graphics, and even IPX play bridged across TCP/IP.
