Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero
From UltimateMK.com
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero was a side-scrolling, action/adventure game released for the Playstation and Nintendo 64. It focused on the storyline of Sub Zero, the main character in the game. The game is set before the events of the original Mortal Kombat and introduces characters that also appear in Mortal Kombat 4 such as Quan Chi and Shinnok. By backtracking, the MK Team was able to add characters to Mortal Kombat 4 that had storylines plausibly connected to the overall storyline from the very beginning.
Gameplay
MKM:SZ uses standard side-scrolling gameplay with elements of the 2D Mortal Kombat games added on to it. You move your character left or right. You can jump and duck. You have punches and kicks like in the fighting games. As you play you gain experience that unlocks Sub-Zero's special moves.
The challenges in the game come from difficult jumps that have to be made, fighting regular enemies throughout each level and, at various locations throughout the game, fighting against a boss character.
Versions
This game was released for the Nintendo 64 and the Playstation. The main difference between the two is the lack of full motion video scene in the Nintendo 64 version due to limited space on the cartridge. Instead the scenes are replaced with still images and text. In the Playstation version, the scenes are filmed using live actors in costume set in some real and some generated backgrounds.
