Mortal Kombat Trilogy
From UltimateMK.com
Mortal Kombat Trilogy is an updated version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 that features more characters and altered gameplay characteristics. Below is a list of some of the platforms on which Mortal Kombat Trilogy was released:
Contents |
Playstation
There are at least 3 versions of Mortal Kombat Trilogy for PSX. These versions feature slight differences in gameplay. There are also 3 different versions of the physical disc in the US: an orange disc, a silver disc and a Greatest Hits silver disc.
Buggy Mortal Kombat Trilogy
The earliest known publicly available version of MKT has noticably unfinished gameplay. Characters drift through the air as if there is less gravity in the game resulting in many new infinites and much longer juggles than were possible in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
There is a version of MKT that is more refined than Buggy MKT but is not quite as polished as Greatest Hits MKT.
Greatest Hits Mortal Kombat Trilogy
The Greatest Hits version of MKT is considered the most complete. The gameplay is extremely similar to Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and has had a lot of the gameplay problems of Buggy MKT fixed.
Nintendo 64
Unlike the Saturn and PC versions, Mortal Kombat Trilogy for N64 is not a direct port of the Playstation version. It is its own custom version of the game. There are versions of MKT for N64 that use both 16MB and 24MB cartridges however there is no difference in the amount of content and the 16MB version is most likely the one mass produced for consumers. Due to these cartridge size limits the game is much smaller than the other console and PC versions. It is missing a number of characters and frames of animation are cut throughout the game.
Saturn
The Saturn version of MKT is a direct port of the Playstation version. However, it is unknown whether a port of Greatest Hits MKT was ever released for Saturn. We here at UltimateMK.com have not encountered a version of MKT for Saturn that matches the Greatest Hits version. Because of this the Saturn version is considered inferior to the PSX version. Besides the differences in gameplay, the games look and sound the same.
PC (Windows)
Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the PC is a direct port of the PSX version. There are at least 2 known versions of the game. One of them, called the Final version because on the About window (Final) appears next to the version, is a direct port of Greatest Hits MKT. Another version exists that is similar to MKT for PSX (not greatest hits or buggy). This game features IPX based netplay that can be extended with 3rd party applications to allow full netplay. It also does not have the loading time that the PSX and Saturn versions have.
Game.com
Mortal Kombat Trilogy for Game.com is an extremely basic, stripped down version of MKT produced for the Tiger Electronics Game.com handheld gaming system. The quality of the graphics is very low because the system only supports black, white, and 4 levels of gray.
